Talana K. Greene is in her eighth year as Director of Vocal Music. Mrs. Greene is a National Board Certified Teacher who received her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of South Florida and is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership. During her tenure as vocal music director, Mrs. Greene has revitalized the choir program. Building the program from the ground up and turning it into one of the most decorated programs in the State. KHS’s advanced show choir, “PRIDE”, was honored with being selected to premier the new State Anthem of Florida in January of 2008. PRIDE was featured on “Good Day Tampa Bay” this past September as the feature performers in a two-hour kick-off for the season premier of the hit TV show GLEE. PRIDE was also asked to participate in a Nationally televised PBS event “Celebrate America” with Tim Jannis which aired as part of the PBS National fundraising campaign last spring.
The Women’s and Mixed Choirs at KHS are consistently rated superior at district, state, and national festivals and competitions. At last year’s “Fiestaval” festival in Myrtle Beach, SC the choirs from King High School placed no lower than second in every category they entered. Special recognition was given to Mrs. Greene by the festival committee for her “Notable Contribution to Music Excellence” for conducting all of the choirs and orchestras from KHS.
Under Mrs. Greene’s baton, the KHS orchestra has continued its tradition of excellence. King High School is always well represented at every All-County and All-State event—on numerous occasions a member of the KHS Orchestra has sat Principal Chair. Mrs. Greene’s orchestras have received Superior and Excellent ratings at every competition they have entered. Most recently the King High School Orchestra was awarded the overall Grand Champion Trophy at the 2009 “Fiestaval” Music festival in Myrtle Beach, SC.
Mrs. Greene has served as the District Chair for the Florida Vocal Association, All-County Jazz Choir Chair, and is the choral representative to the Secondary Music Council. She is also an active member of the Florida Music Educators Association.
